Paying for a SaaS tool from Algeria without a Visa card

You find the perfect tool. You reach the payment page. It asks for an international Visa or Mastercard. End of story.

This is the most ordinary and most expensive blocker for an Algerian company trying to equip itself: it is not the price that stops you, it is the payment method.

Why this wall exists

Most SaaS vendors plug in an international payment provider and bill in euros or dollars. Three obstacles stack up:

1. The card. CIB and Edahabia cards run on the national SATIM network. They are not accepted by an international payment terminal.
2. The currency. Even with a card that goes through, a charge in foreign currency assumes a currency authorisation that most small businesses do not have.
3. The invoice. A dollar receipt issued by a foreign company is difficult to book as an expense in Algerian accounting.

The usual workarounds — a relative's card abroad, a prepaid account, an intermediary — sometimes work. None of them holds up at company scale, and none of them produces a usable invoice.

The solution: paying in dinars on the national network

A vendor that takes the Algerian market seriously plugs in a local provider. In concrete terms, that means:

• a CIB or Edahabia card, the one you already have;
• an amount in dinars, with no conversion and no exchange fees;
• an Algerian invoice, which your accountant accepts without argument.

The second trap: the subscription that renews itself

Payment is not the only point of friction. Many tools work on recurring direct debit — a mechanism poorly suited to a national card, and above all hard to stop.

Check before you commit

Three questions to ask any vendor before you take out your card:

• Do you accept CIB or Edahabia cards? If the answer is vague, it is no.
• Is the amount in dinars? A price "from €29" is not a price in dinars.
• Is there automatic renewal? And if so, how do you stop it — in one click, or by emailing support?

A vendor who answers those three questions clearly has thought about the Algerian market. The others have added it to a map.
